The IIS La Fe Board appoints Dr. Pilar Nos as the new Scientific Director

Dr. Pilar Nos Mateu is the new Scientific Director of the La Fe Health Research Institute (IIS La Fe). The appointment was ratified during the meeting of the Board of the La Fe Foundation, chaired by the Conseller of Health, Marciano Gómez, thus confirming the proposal made by the IIS La Fe Research Commission.

With the appointment of Dr. Nos, IIS La Fe complies with the regulations for the accreditation of biomedical or health research institutes by the Carlos III Health Institute (ISCIII), which requires having a scientific director and a management structure, led by the Managing Director, María José Carrión, since July 2024.

The appointment follows the retirement of the current Scientific Director of IIS La Fe, Dr. Guillermo Sanz Santillana, who has led the institute's scientific strategy since 2021.

Through the leadership of Dr. Pilar Nos, IIS La Fe continues its commitment to generating high-quality scientific knowledge to improve healthcare and contribute to the advancement of medicine.

A leader in digestive research

Dr. Pilar Nos is the head of the Digestive Medicine Department at the Hospital Universitari i Politècnic La Fe and the head of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease research group at the La Fe Health Research Institute (IIS La Fe). She was recently named the second most prestigious professional in Spain in her specialty, according to the Merco Healthcare Reputation Monitor (MRS).

Dr. Nos holds a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Valencia (1986) and a doctorate in Medicine (1996). Throughout her career, she has furthered her education with a Master's in Clinical Management from UNED in 2010 and an Expert's Degree in Clinical Management and Leadership from ESADE in 2012 and 2014. She has taught in various editions of courses at the Valencian School of Health Studies and in several doctoral courses. She is currently a professor in the Master's in Autoimmune Diseases at the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV) and the AEG-GETECCU Master's program.

In research, Dr. Nos has participated in more than 50 clinical trials, serving as the Principal Investigator (PI) in 20 of them. She has also been a regular reviewer for ISCIII projects under the FIS program, acting as PI or Co-PI in over 10 projects. From 2016 to 2021, she served as the editor of the journal Gastroenterología y Hepatología and continues to review for various scientific journals.

Dr. Nos has published over 200 indexed articles in PubMed, including works in renowned international journals such as Gastroenterology, Gut, Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and Journal of Crohn and Colitis. In 2023, she ranked first in the Merco Healthcare Reputation Monitor and second in 2024. She has also served as president of GETECCU, one of the leading scientific societies in the field of inflammatory bowel diseases.
