La Fe Health Research Institute celebrates March 8th and pays tribute to pioneering female researchers
The biomedical research center launches, once again, two campaigns to make the work of women in science visible and inspire new vocations among girls and teenagers who want to pursue science degrees
The La Fe Health Research Institute (IIS La Fe) celebrates March 8th, International Women's Day, highlighting the role of pioneering women researchers in the world of science. Therefore, we want to pay tribute to all those women researchers who, with their dedication, effort, and talent, have paved the way for future generations, as 'we were few before and now we are many.'
From the earliest steps in medical research to the most recent advances in biomedical science, these women have left an indelible mark on IIS La Fe and society. Their valuable contribution has driven scientific progress and inspired new generations of women to follow in their footsteps in biomedical research.
On this day, we claim their legacy and renew our commitment to promoting gender equality in science and society as a whole.
Two actions for gender equality
Prior to this recognition on March 8th, IIS La Fe has also developed a campaign for February 11th, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, putting a face to 8 women who have contributed to science and society, but also to inspire other colleagues to aim high in their professional field.
Following the footsteps of the previous year, each participant has provided a photo of themselves as a child, a current photo, and has answered a questionnaire in which they have been able to address future female scientists with words based on their personal and professional experience.
Esther Roselló, Pilar Sierra, Pili Medina, Esther Zorio, Mª Eugenia Gas, Rosario Menéndez, Sara García Gil-Perotín, and Ana García Blanco have been the protagonists of this campaign, and their research has significantly contributed to advancing knowledge in their respective fields. Through this campaign, we celebrate the legacy of these pioneering women and highlight their crucial role in promoting gender equality in science. By highlighting their achievements and sharing their inspiring stories, we hope to motivate future generations of women to follow in their footsteps and pursue their own scientific aspirations.
